Daniel began creating "Emergence-See!" five years ago. "I have been interested in what it means to be free, how we can be more free, and what are obstacles to our freedom," Beaty says. He defines freedom as the ability to lead a joyful and peaceful life.

The story line, he says, attempts to answer the question so that he, his audiences and even his characters experience more freedom. The slave ship serves as a metaphor for the price paid for freedom, giving a focal point to the journeys of his characters.
